Bereavement support

We are supporters of Cruse Bereavement Care, a national charity established in 1959.

Cruse operates a network throughout the UK and offers information and support to bereaved people of all ages, confidentially, free of charge and without prejudice or discrimination.

Cruse knows that grief is not an illness but a natural human experience and that most people are helped through their bereavement by family and friends. We also know that some people experience difficulties along the way and may need particular help and support to move on.

However recent or long ago the bereavement, Cruse can be approached at any time when practical information is required or when a bereaved person needs listening support that cannot be found within their own circle of friends and family.

We recognise that grief is a different process for everyone and through our long experience we know that bereaved people find great comfort and relief in being able to express their feelings confidentially and talk through their distress with those who are trained to listen. Understanding grief and loss is essential to healing and for future wellbeing and recovery.

East Sussex Cruse currently offer a weekly drop-in at Eastbourne and Brighton, where you can talk to a bereavement volunteer or join a group of bereaved people which will be facilitated by trained volunteers. No appointment is necessary and this free service is completely confidential to Cruse. Some people find these groups are also a valuable resource while they are waiting for a regular appointment to see a volunteer on a one-to-one basis.
